The continuous water degreasing process "WATREX" has been developed for the production of degreased bones, raw material for the production of photographic gelatin, pharmaceutical and food industries.
The principle used is to mix raw materials with a constant flow of hot water circulating in closed loop and acting as a degreasing media.
Degreasing with water is done counter-currently in two or three steps.
The degreased bone is dried in a disc dryer or hot air rotary dryer, cleaned and sorted by size and densitometry. The grease is recovered by decanter and centrifuge in series.
