Servicing the environment and energy, SIL offers solutions for the valorization of biomass.
SIL proposes technologies for treatment of waste or by-products from agro and food industries, sludge treatment, solid wastes and biomasses as well as waste gas.
Biomass is defined as renewable organic materials, such as wood, agricultural crops or wastes, and municipal wastes. It can be used as a source of fuel or energy and be burned directly to recover its energy content. Although the processing of biomass and wastes (organic materials) emits carbon dioxide, it is classed as a carbon neutral fuel due to the carbon cycle. Indeed, while the crop grows it will absorb carbon dioxide, releasing it back into the atmosphere when burnt. The Grenelle Environment has set targets leading to an important increase in production of electricity and heat from biomass in France by 2020.
