Sludge from the physico-chemical and biological treatment is mechanically dehydrated and go into the dryer disc at a dryness of about 17%.
After a residence time in the dryer, varying with the nature of the sludge, the dried product leaves with a dryness that can reach 95%.
Drying reduces drastically the volume of the sludge. This technique is useful for reducing the costs of transportation and storage.
At the outlet of the dryer, the dried sludge is sanitized. The fermentability of the sludge and therefore the production of odors are greatly reduced, which enhances the conservation of the product and avoids bad odors.
Preserving the fertilizing capacity of the sludge, drying appears to be a particularly interesting solution to their agricultural use. The dried product can be approved giving it the name of a product.
In the case of energy recovery, reducing the humidity level in the sludge achieves self-combustion.
SIL has two types of indirect dryers to meet all applications.
