The flue gas scrubber is used in complex cases of wet processing or semi-wet.
It allows to process gases containing contaminants such as acids, ammonia, sulfur dioxide ... Pollutants when passing trough the aqueous wash solution counter-currently are transferred from the gas phase to the liquid phase where they are neutralized (chemical reaction) by the injection of reagents.
Spray nozzles are placed at the top of the scrubber, producing a mist of droplets to create an exchange surface between the liquid wash and the pollutants.
Classically scrubbers consist of 2 or 3 elements making each a step of the purification of gases:
